Teaching My Children

I have been always jealous of people who their husband likes to cook or cooks for them. My husband is not one of them. My mother in-law did a great job of raising her kids but one thing that my husband does not know how to do is cook or even have the desire to cook. His idea of fixing dinner is grabbing a pizza, or fixing hot cereal or cold cereal. A few years ago I read a book call the Parenting Break Through. In this book she tells you all of the things that your children should know before they turn 18 and or move out of the house. Here is the list. After reading that book it got me thinking. I really would like the teach my children these things.

I believe Brad is at the age were I should be teaching him how to make salads. Even though it is not on the list. I think I remember when I read her book that salads was on of the first things to start with. So I made a list of salads that I can help him make and then once he has mastered the salads we will move on to breakfast.

I just have one little problem. Brad and Victoria are so close in age that Victoria thinks she can do everything Brad is doing. Like one summer Brad’s chore was to vacuum. Well Victoria wanted that chore too but she wasn’t quite strong enough to maneuver the vacuum like her brother. So we will see if she is old enough and coordinated enough to do the same things as her brother. I am sure she is.
